Safety and Warm 90° Water
Top Flight Sports Center has specifically designed its pool
for teaching children to swim. With safety in mind, the 50'
x 30' pool has two broad steps which run the length of the
pool. The shallow end starts at just 2½' deep and it gradually
increases to 4½' deep. Knowing that the success of a swim
lesson is directly proportionate to the temperature of the
water, we keep our pool at about 90°. That in combination
with clever teaching aids, and loving, enthusiastic teachers
and you begin to get an idea of all that Top Flight Aquatics
can do for your child. Of course seeing is believing, so please
stop by and observe a class. We are not able to offer a free trial
class, but if during your first session of swim, you are not
completely satisfied we will cheerfully give you a 100% refund!

Extremely Small Student—Teacher Ratios
Going above and beyond for the safety and education of your
child, we keep a small—very small ratio! For our 3—5 year and
our beginner youth classes the student/teacher ratio is 4:1,
and for our advanced classes the student/teacher ratio is 6:1.
The exceptions are our games class with a 8:1 ratio and our
parent/child class with a 10:1 ratio. |

Want to know what some of our customers say about our
Aquatics Program? |
Dear Margaret,
I couldn't let this incident go by without telling you about
it. On Friday, afternoon, we were taking the girls out on my
parents' boat. Our daughter slipped and fell off the dock
and into the water between the dock and the boat. (The water
depth was over her head.) The first thing she did was
surface and reach for the dock. We were able to pull her out
of the water easily. She was a little scared, but otherwise
unharmed. Thank you so much for teaching her this emergency
skill. I know you were concerned about whether or not she
had mastered that technique and I guess she just proved that
she did. I can't thank you enough for demonstrating the
importance of reaching for safety. Please feel free to share
our story with others. Enjoy your summer! We will see you in
the fall. |

NO Aquatic MAKE-UPS...but why?
Why do we offer make-ups in other Top Flight programs but not
Aquatics? Simply, we have found it logistically impossible to
maintain our small 4:1 ratio and provide make-ups.
Instead of make-ups, for a missed class or a class canceled
due to thunder or lightning you will receive entrance for four
family members (immediate family only), into our Family Fun
Swim. Family Fun Swim is a time for you and your children to
come and enjoy the Top Flight pool in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
The actual value of Family Fun Swim for four is $22.00 ($12.00/2
and $5.00 for additional family members). Note: Family Fun Swim
is limited and REQUIRES A RESERVATION. Family Fun Swim is
limited to two per term and is held on Saturday’s from 3:45
PM—5:45 PM. |
Toddler Parent/Child Classes
A great way to spend time and learn together. For your child,
the Parent/Child classes are pure fun. Skills are taught
through verses and songs. Classes are a wonderful way to take
advantage of the unique way water has of strengthening
relationships. And for us... we know that they are a wonderful
way to help your child associate water with pleasure and fun (rather than fear and anxiety),
the foundation for developing a life-long love and respect of
the water. Child/teacher ratio: 10:1.
Note: your child should register for Preschool—K classes after
celebrating their 3rd birthday. With youngsters, it is always
a wise rule of thumb: go slow, don’t push.
Water Gear
It is MANDATORY that parents equip ALL non-potty trained children
(learners too) in SWIM DIAPERS, as poop accidents
in a pool can be a very costly event. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE: plastic
training pants or regular diapers
of any kind. We recommend you use ONLY the permanent swim
diapers that are available at the Top Flight Pro-shop or the
IDENTICAL brand from elsewhere. They are priced below retail and
are reusable. Goggles are also available in our Pro-shop.

Picture Week
We invite the parents to quietly sneak on deck the last class
of each term to take pictures or videos. Note, this privilege
is reserved for picture taking only and general observation
is to remain from the behind the fence viewing area. And please,
while on deck, remember, shhhhh…, the jumble of noise makes
learning difficult. Please, no siblings on deck, as their presence
is distracting. |
Parental Advisory: Please Read and Heed…
1. When confronted with fearful situations, children tend to
collapse emotionally in the presence of their parents. As difficult
as it is to accept, in stressful situations, children generally
fare better when parents are not available as a crutch. We are
experienced in calming distressed children and you can confidently
leave your youngster in our hands and exit to our observation
area. You may need to move entirely out of the line of sight,
as even eye contact can trigger an emotional collapse.
2. WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are a client facility of Jeff Ellis &
Associates, the aquatic safety experts. Our agreement with them
requires us to have an adult observer sitting in a tall chair
during any swim class. If you see something the teacher needs to
know, please speak up. All swim teachers are certified Ellis &
Associates lifeguards.
3. Shhhhh….Our pool is a classroom and a classroom requires
100% attention of all. Our teaching technique includes calming instruction, and even soft voices can be distracting
to teachers and students alike.
4. NO SIBLINGS ON DECK. Their enthusiasm is a safety hazard
as well as a source of distraction, adding life-guarding-siblings
to our teachers' responsibilities. They are welcome to watch
behind the low chain link fence in the observation area.
5. Please respect our age groupings. In our competitive USA
culture, the impulse to “fudge age groupings” is powerful. Please
resist the seduction of “fast-tracking”. Years of experience
has taught us that negative learning attitudes caused by pressures
to learn as a youngster don’t manifest themselves till later
years. By the time your child is in Jr. high, he/she will either
‘love to learn’ or will be ‘anxious about learning.’ So, be wise: in the early years, especially before 2nd grade,
please allow your youngster to learn in a relaxed, fun, exciting
atmosphere.
6. Our small teacher to student ratios exist for one reason—to provide
an exceptional swim experience for your child. However,
there is a downside to our small ratios: It limits the number
of students we are able to accept, and favorite classes fill
up quickly. Sooo...avoid being booked out of a class, register
today.
